Conference 2018

For those of you who attended the recent Exe Factor event, you may recognise some of these facts that I have shamelessly cribbed from Dan Frye’s speech, in which he delivered some really interesting statistics demonstrating Exeter’s growth.

Dan told us that Exeter is the fastest growing city outside of London, according to the Office for National Statistics – growing 2.4% year on year.
He also told us that Exeter is the fourth fastest job-generating city in the UK and that, according to Exeter City Council’s CEO, Karime Hassan, we currently have 4,000 vacancies, and only around 900 registered unemployed, meaning businesses are facing something of a recruitment crisis.
We have Lidl and IKEA about to open up for business in the city, and they have already started their recruitment campaigns.

So, why is the Exeter PA Network highlighting this?

You don’t fully appreciate what you have until you no longer have it.

This is so true for me at the moment, as after nearly 30 years of working for some pretty big businesses I have decided to become self-employed.

I love being self-employed it has so many positives but none of the employee benefits I have been used to having.
